Hermes and the Crocus Flower
Crocus was a good friend of the Greek god Hermes, the god of commerce in Ancient Greece.
One day, as the two friends were throwing the disc at each other, Hermes struck Crocus on the head, mortally wounding him.
Three drops of the blood that dripped to the ground turned into a small flower with shiny stamens. The flower was named after Crocus to honour the Greek hero.
